As well as putting a figure on the cost of the ‘winter freeze’ to small businesses, recent research from the Bank of Scotland has backed…

As well as putting a figure on the cost of the ‘winter freeze’ to small businesses, recent research from the Bank of Scotland has backed THUS’s case for remote and flexible working solutions.

With nearly seven in ten small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) feeling the financial impact and more than a third experiencing closure of premises for at least one day, the business case for flexible working solutions comes into focus.

A smarter working solution, which lets your people work from different locations, is now affordable even for the smaller business – it’s simply a question of taking advantage of the technology to find the right services for you.

With the application of the right technology, the right connectivity and the right service, the need for employees to be in the office, to be fully contributing to the business is very much a thing of the past. Home and flexible working increases staff productivity and delivers efficiency savings generally. Staff are able to respond faster to customers and can continue to do their jobs away from their usual office. So, in the face of poor weather or transport problems smarter working’s impact on productivity, employee satisfaction and customer experience – and, by extension, revenue – is clear.

With the overall cost of the harsh winter to UK SMEs estimated to be more than £7bn, according to the research, perhaps the question should not be can we afford to, more can we afford not to?

We are shocked! Yep, shocked, stunned and almost rendered speechless.

A survey by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has found that 24% of companies are dissatisfied with the broadband service they receive from their ISP.

ONLY 24% ???

With speeds and reliability being cited as the main causes of dissatisfaction, the FSB is calling for ISPs to be obliged to deliver speeds of at least 8Mbps to small businesses across the country. With most ISPs not even delivering anything like the speeds they are advertising, we suspect that their call may well fall on deaf ears.

Part of the problem is of course that many small businesses in an attempt to cut costs, sign up to what are essentially services designed for residential customers.

Where is the sense in a business buying services from a consumer telco or a pay TV company? Your business doesn’t need a friends and family call package, a home hub or a super speedy bundle.

What you need is just better broadband delivered over the UK’s most extensive next-generation business only network. Assured speeds and industry leading reliability are backed up by UK based technical support. Oh, and no (un)Fair Usage Policy!

Its time to demand better – its time for devilishly good business broadband.

You may have noticed that THUS has refreshed its Demon.net web site. If you haven’t visited it for a while, we are sure you will be impressed by how good it looks but more importantly, how easy it is to find what you are looking for.

Having listened to customers, we have moved all service information into one area – the knowledgebase – which allows for better functionality. It is now easier to find information about products and services and for customers to contact us through the site

It is the first step in what we hope will be a renaissance of the Demon brand which will see the company return to the fray with a flourish, lots of general redness, some great customer offers and some devilishly good ideas about how to do broadband better.

Read the case study to find out more about how THUS took Birmingham City University on a step by step migration journey to a fully IP enabled network solution

When Birmingham City University realised that getting to their desired situation, IP enabled telephony, in a single leap was beyond their budget, they turned to telecoms partner THUS for some sound advice. Could applying some creative thinking and some sectoral expertise lead to an innovative and practical approach to getting the right solution for the University?

While we don’t condone theft in any form, we do think that any self respecting robber should be more discerning than to steal BT’s slow, unreliable cable.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/highlands_and_islands/8523730.stm

Of course businesses should know that THUS, through Cable& Wireless, has the most extensive next-generation network for business, so if you are after faster and more reliable network telecoms, you don’t have to resort to stealing it – just give us a call and we will sort you out.

With guaranteed savings of at least 25% on calls against BT, you may well begin to think that your current telecoms supplier has been robbing you for years…
